Dr Carla Matias
I am Dr Carla Matias, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and The British Psychological Society.
I have over 10 years clinical experience of working with a
variety of client groups presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties, both in the private sector and in the NHS. I have extensive experience of several evidence-based psychological therapies scientifically proven to promote positive change in common mental health-related problems including anxiety, depression, low-self-esteem, adjusting to trauma and relationship breakdown. I also have a strong research background in the fields of child and adolescent mental health, parenting, attachment, and the understanding of mental health difficulties along a continuum of severity.
Besides my private practice, I have been working in an NHS inpatient rehabilitation service for the past 2years, providing highly specialist psychological input to adults presenting with chronic and complex mental health difficulties. Prior to this, I worked as a Specialist Clinical Psychologist in an NHS community service providing assessment and treatment to young adults presenting with first episode of psychosis and a range of co-morbidities.
My approach to psychological therapy is integrative, tailoring the most effective treatments to each client’s
specific difficulties in a safe, empathic and nonjudgmental way. Main therapeutic models used include CBT, Mindfulness, Compassion-Focussed Therapy, and Schema Therapy. I also draw upon other models such as ACT and DBT.
I am fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
