Dr Laura Arkless

Clinical Psychologist, Surrey

I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist of 16 years and I provide psychological therapies to adults, young people, children and families, specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT for the full range of commonly experienced difficulties with emotional functioning, mental health and behaviour.

I offer evidence based psychological approaches with adults, children, teenagers and families for treatment of:

Anxiety, low mood/depression, low self-esteem, panic attacks, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder OCD, health anxiety, generalised anxiety and worry, social anxiety, the psychological effects of trauma including PTSD and overcoming childhood trauma, anger management, sleep problems, relationship problems, eating problems including overeating and binge eating, eating and behavioural feeding difficulties in young children, child behaviour difficulties, emotion regulation, parenting difficulties including post-natal depression and PTSD arising from experiencing a traumatic birth.

Prior to becoming an independent practitioner, I specialised as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in NHS services for children and young people across the age range, with complex neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum disorders and ADHD.  I am able to adapt therapy to suit the needs of young people and adults with the full range of developmental difficulties and their families.

My training means that I have a range of skills in multiple therapeutic approaches, including family therapy and systemic practice, behaviour therapy and in the assessment and diagnosis of developmental difficulties.

Although the main approach to therapy I use is CBT, what works for one person may not work for all.  My broad-based training and experience as a Clinical Psychologist, means I will always tailor an intervention to fit with a person’s own unique circumstances, experiences and the changes they are aiming to make in their lives.
