Dr. Sharon Smith
Counselling Psychologist, Surrey
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and The British Psychological Society.
I have 11years of experience working with clients with a broad range of difficulties from more common problems such as depression, anxiety disorders and low self-esteem, to more specialist areas including personality disorders,
violence in intimate relationships, parenting problems, alcohol and substance misuse and occupational health.
I have worked in a variety of different settings with children, adolescents, adults and families. Since qualification in 2014,
I continued to work for the NHS in Adult Secondary Care where I cared for clients with complex or longstanding problems that included Bipolar Affective Disorder, Psychosis and Trauma.
I have been working in private practice since 2016.
As a Counselling Psychologist, I place much emphasis on the relationship between client and therapist. I have been trained in numerous therapeutic approaches and can tailor treatment to your preferences and needs. I primarily practice within an integrative framework using Schema Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Schema Therapy is particularly helpful for longstanding difficulties or recurring life patterns such as a
history of unsatisfactory relationships.
I am highly committed to continued professional and personal development and regularly attend relevant training courses and events, keeping up to date with developments in the field and evidence of best practice.
