Farhana Gibson
Integrative Counsellor
Hello, my name is Farhana and I am a qualified integrative counsellor. I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by the guidelines set out in their Ethical Framework (2018).
I have spent my career working with young people and adults in education who have social/emotional/mental well-being and learning difficulties. I also work as part of a charity which support adults facing mental health crisis, and have done extensive training around different mental health issues. I have worked with a range of difficulties including stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, OCD, self-esteem issues, disordered eating, addiction, attachment issues, self-harm, grief, loss, PTSD and trauma. More recently, I have specialised in working with clients who have acquired traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and have also counselled family members.
As an integrative counsellor, this means I draw from different theoretical modalities in order to tailor the therapy to my client's specific needs. I mainly draw from Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, and CBT models, but have also worked creatively with clients who have benefited from Reminiscence Therapy (RT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT).

As a counsellor, I believe that a safe, supportive, empathic, and non-judgemental space is key for clients to work through issues they may be finding hard. Life can throw up challenging situations at any time, but with a strong therapeutic alliance in which these can be worked through, life-long positive change truly can occur. Whether the challenges stem from early years and childhood, or whether they are in the here and now, I pride myself on coming alongside my clients to work through these, and gain a new found sense of insight and awareness.
