Dr Slav Zhelev

Clinical Psychologist and Accredited CBT Therapist

Hello, I'm Dr Slav Zhelev, an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist and BABCP-accredited CBT Therapist. I have extensive experience supporting adults and young people with a wide range of psychological difficulties across the NHS and private settings. My approach is collaborative, compassionate and evidence-based, and I am committed to creating a safe therapeutic space where clients feel heard and empowered to work towards meaningful change. My professional background includes extensive training and experience in working with individuals as well as couples.

I work with a broad range of difficulties including:

·       Generalised Anxiety

·       Depression and low mood

·       Health anxiety

·       Social anxiety

·       Specific phobias

·       Low self-esteem

·       The psychological impact of chronic health conditions

I am skilled in adapting therapy for neurodivergent individuals, including people with diagnosed or suspected ADHD, autism, or both. I understand the unique ways that neurodivergence can intersect with mental health difficulties and tailor my approach to ensure therapy is accessible, meaningful and effective for each person.

I have particular specialist expertise in supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This can include a range of difficulties specific to LGBTQIA+ experiences, such as challenges around identity development, trauma, navigating discrimination or minority stress, and managing the impact of internalised stigma or shame. I also work with individuals experiencing psychosexual difficulties and people navigating sexual health challenges, including those living with or recently diagnosed with HIV or HSV (herpes). I support individuals who experience anxiety or phobia around HIV testing as well.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from a range of evidence-based models to ensure therapy is tailored to each individual's unique needs, preferences and goals. These include:

·       Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

·       Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

·       Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

·       Systemic Therapy

·       Psychodynamic approaches

Qualifications:
