Kasia Wilford-Obara

Relational Integrative Therapist

Hello!

My name is Kasia (pronounced Kasha), and I am a BACP-registered relational integrative psychotherapist. I endeavour to bring warmth, compassion, and curiosity to our work together, exploring what feels difficult or unclear at a pace that feels right for you.

I have experience working with adults across the lifespan and with a wide range of presenting issues, including (but not limited to) relationship and attachment difficulties, anxiety and depression, identity issues, shame and low self-esteem, trauma and abuse, life transitions and ageing, and suicidal ideation. I also have a particular interest in, and personal experience of, perinatal mental health difficulties, parenting challenges, and academic stress and burnout. Alongside academic knowledge, I bring creativity, theoretical flexibility, and relational depth into my work.

I have worked within culturally diverse counselling services, including short-term NHS low-cost counselling in Croydon (Care to Listen), and I currently work as a volunteer psychotherapist in a trauma-informed service at Sutton Women’s Centre. These settings have shaped my commitment to offering therapy that is sensitive, inclusive, and grounded in lived experience.

As a bilingual therapist, I offer therapy in both English and Polish.

Before and alongside my psychotherapy training, I spent several years working in supportive roles with neurodivergent young adults in educational settings, elderly people in care settings, and individuals with mental health and learning difficulties in residential care. These roles have given me valuable insight into the lived experiences of diverse communities and the many ways people navigate life’s challenges.

How I Work

I relate to people with the conviction that everyone has the right to be heard and the potential to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.

The essence of my therapeutic work is to help alleviate psychological distress, foster emotional resilience and self-awareness, and cultivate greater acceptance and self-compassion. Where helpful, I also support clients in developing practical coping strategies, including more compassionate and constructive ways of thinking and relating to themselves and others.

I work integratively and was trained in therapeutic approaches broadly described as humanistic/existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive. These include:

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Mentalization-based and mindfulness-informed approaches

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Transactional Analysis (TA)

I have a particular interest in attachment and trauma, relational dynamics, and psychosomatic experiences, and how these influence perception, behaviour, and emotional regulation. I have undertaken additional training in trauma-informed CBT.

I value openness, collaboration, and feedback, as I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is central to growth and healing.

Academic Qualifications and Training

• MA Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy – University of Roehampton
• BSc (Hons) Psychology – The Open University
• Level 2 Certificate in CBT for Trauma – The Association for Psychological Therapies (APT)
• Certificate in Applying IFS Therapy for Addictive Processes – PESI
• Domestic Violence Training – Sutton Women’s Centre

Starting Therapy

Finding the right therapist is an important step. I offer a free brief phone or video consultation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and see whether working together feels right.

The first session is a form of assessment, allowing me to get to know you, your past and present circumstances, and to develop an initial understanding of your difficulties. We will then think collaboratively about how therapy might support you. This session also allows you to ask questions and to see whether you feel comfortable working with me. The initial assessment sessions are charged £60 (applicable to in-person sessions).

Following the assessment, there is no obligation to continue if you decide therapy is not right for you. However, if you feel that we are a good match, I can offer both short-term and long-term therapy.

Practical Information

• Sessions last 50 minutes
• In-person sessions available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
• Initial assessment session: £60
• Ongoing sessions: £65

If you would like to arrange an initial conversation or have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
