Dr Robyn O’Connell        Clinical Psychologist, Surrey

Hello, my name is Dr Robyn O’Connell and I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist.

I have experience in working therapeutically with individuals describing difficulties including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety disorders (such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Specific Phobia, Panic Disorder and Social Phobia), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), hoarding disorder, low self-esteem, emotion regulation difficulties, unusual experiences (such as hearing voices), body image
and weight management issues.

I have worked in the NHS and privately since 2007, in various mental health services for adults, young people and their families. This includes working in an NHS adult Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) clinic, and as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). I am experienced in working with neurodiversity, and I currently form part of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)assessment clinic.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained to use a variety of different therapeutic modalities. This includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, EMDR, and Narrative and Systemic therapies. I draw on these different models to provide an integrative approach that is bespoke to the
individual.

At the core of my approach is holding the people I work with in mind with compassion and kindness. I provide a safe, confidential space, where people are met with warmth. I think it’s important to understand clients within their wider social and cultural context. I work collaboratively with clients, empowering them to identify and achieve their goals and develop lifelong skills to carry with them long after therapy has finished.
