Child Combined Autism and ADHD Assessments
Sometimes we may recommend a combined assessment for Autism and ADHD because symptoms of both conditions have been identified during the screening process.
What is the process?
Our team will undertake a full assessment including the use of screening tools, interviews and observations of your child. We use several evaluation tools or rating scales to aid this assessment but will not rely on these alone. Consideration will be given to any co-existing difficulties (e.g. anxiety, mood disorder) so that support can be prioritised and best targeted.
This process will take place over a number of weeks, we will do our best to give you a time frame, but it will depend on factors such as the time it takes to gather the necessary information from all involved.
We would discuss the pros and cons of full combined assessment in the early stages of the assessment process to ensure informed consent to the process. We would also discuss your right to change your mind during the process of assessment, if necessary, and what would happen to the information already gathered.

The standardised assessment measures we use include:
-
The Conners 4th Edition: ADHD screen given to parents, teachers and young people (aged 8 and above)
-
The Autism Quotient 10 (AQ10): Autistic Spectrum Condition screen given to parents
-
Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ): screen given to parents and teachers
-
The Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS): Anxiety and Depression screen given to parents and young people (aged 8 and above)
-
The ADHD Child Evaluation (ACE): Interview Symptom Checklist- an in-depth interview with parents and/or the child or young person exploring symptoms, their onset, duration, pervasiveness and degree of impairment on the child or young person’s functioning
-
The QbCheck: a test we carry out in clinic via an online testing platform that gives an objective measure of inattention, activity and impulsivity to aid ADHD assessment
-
The ADiR
-
The ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, second edition): a semi-structured, standardised assessment of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviours. It is recommended in the National guidelines for the assessment of autism. It usually takes around 60 minutes to complete, and there is nothing that an individual would need to prepare in advance of the assessment. Our ADOS-2 assessments will always be reviewed by at least two members of the team, in order to reach consensus. For this reason, we record our ADOS-2 assessments, to allow for the clinicians to review and discuss. Once a diagnostic conclusion has been reached, and the final report has been finalized, the recording will be deleted.

How much will the combined assessment cost?
